Cantilevered Contemporary
Set on the shores of Lake George in Bolton Landing, New York, this 8,500-square-foot estate redefines what it means to design for multigenerational lakeside living. Still under construction, this project is a bold example of Lindsell Interiors' multi-disciplinary approach to luxury new builds. Working alongside Balzer + Tuck Architects, we were engaged to help design a property that includes a shoreline pavilion, a recreation house, and a main residence featuring cantilevered architecture, exposed steel, and Shou Sugi Ban siding. The floating design is anchored by a dramatic indoor-outdoor fireplace that creates a strong architectural through-line from the interior great room to the lower terrace. The site was formerly home to the iconic Bonnie View Motel, now transformed into a legacy retreat designed for entertaining, connection, and year-round enjoyment.
With amenities including a golf simulator, a ninja course, a climbing wall, and various outdoor gathering spaces, this home is built to host large family events without sacrificing refinement or comfort. Asian influences can be seen throughout—from the koi pond with a bridge leading to a pivoting front door, to the deliberate use of natural materials that age gracefully over time. Carefully selected finishes, warm and durable furnishings, and a strong indoor-outdoor relationship ensure that this lakeside estate feels both striking and inviting. As one of the most architecturally ambitious projects in the Lake George region, this home sets a new standard for contemporary Adirondack luxury.
In addition to the striking architectural features, the interior design of this Lake George retreat emphasizes comfort and functionality. Natural materials, such as reclaimed wood and stone, are used throughout to echo the surrounding landscape. Large, strategically placed windows offer panoramic views of the lake, seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor living spaces. The design also incorporates sustainable practices, utilizing energy-efficient systems and locally sourced materials to minimize environmental impact.
This home is the realization of a couple’s dream to create a legacy retreat on the shores of Lake George. Designed to host multiple generations, the property serves as a gathering place for their children, grandchildren, and extended family. Rooted in decades of cherished lake memories, the family envisioned a space where the Adirondacks would meet modernity, offering comfort, fun, and connection for years to come.
Cantilevered Contemporary is an in-progress 8,500-square-foot masterpiece being built on the site of a former motel, now transformed into a family legacy estate. Already completed is the boathouse, shoreline pavilion for outdoor grilling and gatherings, and recreation house complete with a billiards table and lakeside entertainment space. Under construction, the primary home features cantilevered architecture with a fireplace that extends from the living area to the lower terrace, anchoring the floating structure and creating a striking focal point for the property. The main estate will also house an indoor golf simulator, complete with a ninja course and climbing wall for the grandchildren.
The vision for Cantilevered Contemporary is to create a modern yet inviting lakeside retreat, blending natural elements with bold architectural features. Designed with Japanese influence, the home incorporates striking details such as Shou Sugi Ban siding and a serene entry bridge that crosses over the koi pond to reach the pivoting front door. Thoughtfully selected materials, exposed steel, and a cantilevered design give the property its distinctive edge, while the comfortable furnishings ensure a welcoming atmosphere for the grandkids and granddogs. This harmonious balance of elegance and functionality captures the family’s desire for a timeless retreat that honors the natural beauty and tranquility of Lake George.
